About Uchumi
Uchumi Supermarket is a supermarket chain founded in 1975 by the state-owned ICDC, Kenya Wine Agencies and Kenya National Trading Corporation; its name means economy in Swahili. It listed on the NSE in 1992, was delisted when it entered receivership in 2006 and relisted on 31 May 2011 after a government-backed rescue. It closed its Uganda and Tanzania stores in 2015 and now runs a few Nairobi-area branches.
