About Safaricom

Safaricom is Kenya's largest mobile network operator, providing voice, data, fibre and the M-Pesa service, with a subsidiary in Ethiopia since 2022. It was founded in 1997 as a unit of Telkom Kenya, with Vodafone taking a 40 percent stake in 2000. It listed on the NSE in June 2008 at KES 5 per share when the government sold a 25 percent stake. Vodacom and the Government of Kenya are the major shareholders.
