About Mumias

Mumias Sugar Company was once Kenya's largest sugar miller, producing sugar, ethanol and electricity from cane grown mainly by out-growers around Mumias in Kakamega County. Founded in 1971 with government majority ownership, it listed on the NSE in 2001. KCB placed it under receivership in September 2019 and trading in its shares has been suspended since October 2019. The factory is now leased to Sarrai Group.
